Rylands A 2002 - 03.
Rylands A 14 - Adlington A 8
RYLANDS coach Tex Regan can feel proud of his players after they put Adlington A to the sword in difficult conditions.
Father and son Keith and Mike Thomason were the driving force behind the hard fought North West Counties win but Anthony Reilly and Andy Mousedale were the inspiration.
Mike Lee crashed through four attempted tackles on his way to the try line.
The introduction of Christian Froggart gave Rylands much more impetus in the second half. One of his runs put Mousedale in position to touch down.
Newton Storm 12 - Rylands A 28
A COUPLE of 'against the run of play' tries late on inflated the score in favour of Rylands but they were worthy of their North West Counties Amateur Rugby League Division Six win.
Newton's bravehearts, severely wracked by injuries, gave their utmost against a side bolstered by a postponement which afforded them the luxury of two squads from which to select.
Rylands took the points but not all the plaudits and the best score of the day went to Storm when 18-0 down.
Classy scrum half Meredith slipped out the ball to Reid 70 yards out. He exchanged passes with Prior before thundering over for a try he converted himself.
Storm made a tremendous fist of a comeback. They scored their second try of the game when Holden powered his way over but Rylands were not to be denied.
Charleson took and gave some absolutely massive hits for Newton while full back Cartledge was again imperious in every department.
Storm owed a big 'thank you' to the likes of Dean Kelly, Rob Leonard and Mark Reeve, who each stepped up to the starting grid despite carrying injuries that would have sidelined lesser men.

WITH the first team's game against Pilkingtons being postponed due to their opponent's involvement in the National Cup, most of the players made the short journey to watch the A team record a double over Rylands.
The forwards quickly took a grip on the game with Ste Donnelly, Stu Featherstone and Wayne Swindley leading by example enabling the halfbacks, Darren Yates and Ste Walsh, to control the game and open up a 20-0 interval lead from which there would be no return for the plucky home team.
Centres Glynn Holland and Kev Buck made loads of yards enabling both their wingers to score, while mention must be made of the returning Tony Kirwan for a satisfactory half hour from the subs bench after breaking an ankle back in early September.
Widnes St Maries A 10 Rylands 2
The Maries surge up the North West Counties league continues with a hard worked win against the resilient Warrington side.
The Maries kept them penned in to their 20-metre area with tough tackles from Kev Birmingham, Jamie Rowlands, John Lepts and Jay Brown. And with Craig Yates and Liam Johnson outstanding, it was all one way.
In two incursions into the Maries half the Wiremen dropped two field goals before Neil Higgins and Baz Quinn combined to send Yates away putting in man of the match Mark Keenan under the sticks.
Unfortunately, Johnson's kick hit the post to leave the score at 4-2.
Yates, Lepts and Keenan were carving openings for Rob Council, Si Prendergast and John Woolrich and it came as no surprise when Johnson scooted in for the second try, converted by Keenan.
A Higgins side-step bemused the Rylands defence and he sent Yates through who fed Keenan whose score was mysteriously denied by the official.
A good move between debutant Neil Pierce and Andy Finney almost created another but the score stayed at 10-2 at halftime.
Great defence by Keenan, Danny Hale and Martin Scott foiled Rylands time and again.
On 50 minutes Anthony Hollins' introduction refreshed the attack and tries from Quinn, Yates, Hollins and Pierce were thwarted at the last minute.
Hale gained 20 yards only to be pulled back for a knock on.
Hollins and Lepts were creating havoc but amazingly Rylands kept the second half scoreless.
A great performance by coaches Prendergast and Wharton's men with many players now pushing for a chance in the National Conference side.
